father of ourfathers help me lead my men well do not let me not dishonor my legion please help me regain my families honor Marcus is a young very ambitious roman soldier Our new commander Marcus Aquila forth cohort of Gaul second legion Is this your first command sir It is all he wants to do in his life is regain the honor of his family Well you know who his father was The man who lost the eagle of the ninth not to mention five thousand men I’m telling you the boy’s a bad omen There’s a saying about the eagle lost honor lost honor lost all lost If you lost the eagle that is one of the biggest disgraces He devoted his entire life to being the best soldier that he possible can He’s somebody who really believes in what Roman stands for and he really believes that Rome is superior to any other culture in the world and its actually quite right that Rome should come to dominate the world They say the eagle’s been seen in the far north No roman can survive north of the wall The I’ll take Esca I can use his knowledge he speaks their language He’s a slave Esca was a member of the Baganti’s he’s been a slave for probably about three or four years he hates the Romans he hates this way of life he hates that his freedom has been taken away from him He will slit your throat the minute your alone marcus is very suspicious of the Celts is he gonna be able to trust Esca and can he also see Esca as a human being and not just a slave are you ready they end up going on this epic journey together into the wilds of scotland to find out what happened to the ninth legion and to try and recover its lost standard Brother stand up Enough who has the eagle He knows he’s one of them The film is about friendship the core is about these two guys who are completely different and somehow they have to connect and understand each other your tribe butchered my father’s men like dogs your father came to kill You’re still my slave And you’d be dead in a ditch without me I saved your miserable life Esca what’s happening Get on your knees You’re my slave do as I did for you and you’ll survive You get this incredible power shift is he playing a game with these people and is he lying to them or is he actually betraying his master channing and Jamie get on so well that warmth between the two of them really really helps in the movie because they’ve got to go through so much they spent two days basically in the freezing cold at the end of october here in Scotland in the rain swimming in this river And yet because they’re such good pals and because they are egging each other on they put up with it and they and they carried on and that was you know really impressive and you can’t ask for more What Kevin’s great at is relationships especially friends and really getting to sense what they go through together and every dip and turn along the way in their own little micro-universe you know Kevin’s really really good at that It’s a great great story and there aren’t many great stories in the world which just take hold of your throat and leads you the entire way and I think this is one of those great stories
